Pick of the week: The Hedge Wizard 7 by Alex Maher. Readers who start at book one get seven long volumes of steady party adventure.

New Series

Lifeweaver by Oskar Soderberg

Luke Quinn is twenty-six, a former medical student now working at a burger shop, and he still carries guilt over a sister he could not cure. A broadcast interrupts every screen on Earth to announce a System Integration, glowing orbs appear in cities, and Luke touches one and receives a rare healer class. Healing in this book takes effort. Luke has to diagnose, work with precision, and absorb pain, and his unfinished medical training gives him instincts the System does not supply. This is a system apocalypse LitRPG with weak-to-strong progression, and the first volume runs about 670 pages. Amazon already lists a second book. Suits readers who want a support-class lead who solves medical problems between fights.

Continuing Series

The Hedge Wizard 7 by Alex Maher

Hump inherited his master’s spellbook and little else, and across six books he has grown as a wizard through study, experiment, and dungeon delving with a party whose members have their own goals and loyalties. Book seven drops Hump and his companions through the Veil into a foreign realm, where they meet Loften, God of Craft and one of the Twelve, while Hump is carrying the amulet of the god’s dead wife. The warlocks have broken the final seal, the Twelve Realms are converging, and the Path to Heaven is open for the first time in a thousand years. Hump also has to break through the barrier of the seventh rank. The book runs about 780 pages, and Amazon already lists book eight. Suits readers who like tabletop-style party adventures and a mage who earns each new rank.

Return of the Runebound Professor 10 by Actus

Noah Vines escaped an endless afterlife into the body of a dying magic school professor, and death no longer ends him. Each death resets him at a cost, which lets him test rune combinations, the core of the series’ magic system, in ways other mages cannot. In book ten Noah reaches Obsidia with his soul strengthened by Hollow Symphony, a Master Rune taken from the Night’s Shadow. His friends are scattered, and the Apostle’s disciples have entered all of them in a tournament in Aqua Terra, home city of the Prophet of Renewal, a Rank 8 mage Noah is on bad terms with. Orlen and his Truthseekers are still hunting the group. The cast is large, and the later books lean toward metaphysical stakes. Suits readers who like academy settings and a magic system built on combining runes.

Daylight Rising by Jay Krauss

Book ten of Will of the Immortals. Leon Jäger is a German knight from an earlier age who is pulled into a world of gods, monsters, and Qi cultivation. He advances through cultivation realms by training, fighting in martial tournaments, and clearing dungeons, and his strict code of honor decides how he treats allies and enemies. In this volume the gods themselves are pursuing Leon and his team, and a stranger leads them into an underground city where locals and outsiders are in conflict and corruption is spreading. The series has put out a new book about every three months, and Amazon already lists book eleven. Suits cultivation readers who want an isekai lead with a medieval knight’s mindset.

This is tower climbing LitRPG with a regression hook: Sorin has a veteran’s judgment in a beginner’s body. In book two the Black Hellions have learned where Sorin came from and are hunting him, Nemari’s family is pursuing her for her betrayal, and the key to a legendary trial lands in Sorin’s hands. Loopbreaker: Book 2 by Shawn Wilson

Book two sends him north to the frozen Kingdom of Tules to earn a legendary skill that would let him survive fatal injuries and lengthen his loops, and the warriors of Tules want proof before they teach a southerner anything. Then the loop resets while Francis is still alive, and he has to find out what caused it. Suits readers who enjoy time loop puzzles and a protagonist who improves through repeated attempts.
